Remember
folks, Cryptopsy are back, with Jon Levasseur and they’re playing death metal
again. The band is prepping the release of their new, self-titled record, to
follow-up to 2008’s abysmal foray into melodic deathcore territory with The
Unspoken King. Now for your pleasure the band has two new songs online – ‘Two
Pound Torch’ and ‘Red-Skinned Scapegoat’. For the most part, Cryptopsy are back
to their manic prog death ways. ‘Two Pound Torch’ is a particular highlight
between these two songs. It’s utterly unrelenting and vocalist, Matt McGachy,
who joined for The Unspoken King has shed some his shortcomings from that album
and now fits like a glove. Listen below and scroll on down for song number two.
‘Red-Skinned
Scapegoat’ kicks off in punishing fashion and keeps the momentum at a furious
pace for a while but eventually we meet this bland breakdown that serves little
purpose to the song. It’s has some sporadic jazzy-influenced interludes though
that do keep things a bit more interesting.
