Downfall of
Gaia have been very busy of late, with hectic touring and the pleasant surprise
of signing with Metal Blade. In October they will release their second record,
Suffocating in the Swarm of Cranes and Metal Blade are now streaming a new
offering from the LP entitled ‘In The Rivers Bleak’. Taken from what is an
expansive concept album, this new song sees more of the band’s sprawling melodic
hardcore and post metal hybrid. When interviewed last month, the band revealed
that they were exploring some black metal elements in their sound, and that’s
come to fruition here, borrowing more from the corners occupied by Altar of
Plagues, opposed to Mayhem, and along with the band’s usual three way vocal
delivery, ‘In The Rivers Bleak’ is pretty impressive. Their first LP didn’t get
up to a whole lot but their recent split with In The Hearts of Emperors marked
a huge surge in skill and intuition and Suffocating in the Swarm of Cranes will
hopefully build upon that foundation.
