Last Monday
night Gorguts played in London and Zero Tolerance caught up with the mastermind
behind the avant-death metallers Luc Lemay to find out what the deal with the
reunited band’s new album is. The most important info is… the album’s not
recorded yet. All the music is written with some lyrics left to go and the band
hope to start recording later in the year. Regarding release date – “I would
hope by the end of the year or early 2013 to deliver,” says Luc so perhaps hopes
of a 2012 release have not been completely dashed, but from this vantage point
it seems a little unlikely.
Lemay also
explained the woe the band has been having labels and revealed that the as yet
untitled album will be a concept record focused on Tibetan culture,
specifically the Chinese invasion. There will be eight tracks in total on the album.

Gorguts
reformed in 2008 with a new line-up helmed by Lemay, including Colin Marston
(Dysrhythmia, Krallice) and Kevin Hufnagel (Dysrhythmia, Vaura). The band’s
1998 album Obscura is a death metal classic and a hallmark of DM
experimentalism that’s rightfully lauded endlessly.
